Spring Fever from the Songs Somebody Should Sing series
by Candelaria N. Silva
When spring fever hits
And your sap begins to run
The layers and gloom of winter
Come all undone.
Your throw the windows open
Sweep the cobwebs out your mind
Fill the house with flowers
Go looking for a love to find.
Your skin has felt so hungry
For the warmth of the sun
So you bury coats and mufflers
And find new paths to run.
Spring fever hits
And your poise comes all undone
Passion burns your fingers
And your sap begins to run.
Your thoughts turn to romance
And all kinds of crazy stuff
Like painting your walls purple
And if that ain’t enough
You strap on your sandals
Go strutting down the street
The music is everywhere you
Plant your freshly prettied feet.
You put on all your colors
Unwrap your big wide grin
You’re ripe and ready for trouble
Let the season of love begin.
Spring fever hits
And your poise comes all undone
Passion burns your fingers
And your sap begins to run.
Even in this time of Covid
It’s hard to ignore Nature’s bid
The urge to merge is palpable
Your seasonal optimism unflappable
Spring 2020 what’s a woman to do?
Start the seedlings, change the linens,
Open the windows – is that bad or good?
Refresh her attitude and constrain her wandering mood
It’s spring time y’all and that is just
’cause it means Mother Nature didn’t forsake us
Spring has come you sap is s’sposed to run
Do it safely, but best believe find your fun.
Wonderful—in light of forced containment! You nailed my unrest! You’re just so gifted! Thank you.
I find myself feeling my usual restlessness, having ants in my pants and a need to dance, despite Covid-19. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Love your poem! I really can relate! I’m looking for that “warmth of the sun” here in StL. Looking forward to reading your next piece.
Always, Shelly
I hope you find the “warmth of the sun” in the Lou. Thanks for reading. Glad the poem resonated.
That spring fever makes one want to run, and do! But the Corona malaise has me lazing on the couch, wasting my Saturday. But a poem from you perks me up
Lazing on the couch is an allowed spring activity. Glad the poem perked you up. Thanks for taking time to read and comment.
Loving every image that gives the abstract shape and brings it out into the sun of Spring 2020. Feeling every word as I sit here grinning with my window wide open!
So nice to be “grinning with your window wide open!” Thanks for reading and sending a comment.
