Diligent in Dudley 3

Last Saturday I was at a morning meeting at Haley House Bakery & Café in the Dudley Square Commercial District of Roxbury enjoying some delicious grub.  I noticed a group of young people sitting around several tables they had pushed together.  I wondered for a minute what they were up to then pushed it out of my mind as my meeting continued.

When I left Haley House to walk over to A Nubian Notion (a long-term business that is a hub for spreading the word about events), I passed 3 people from the group I’d seen earlier at  Haley House.  They were  cleaning the snow banks and sidewalks of debris along Washington Street.  I walked a few yards past them, remembered I had my camera, and walked back and asked if I might take photo.  I told them I intended to do a blog post about them.

The young woman in the photo, who didn’t want to be named, said that she was from the Black Law Students Association at Northeastern University School of Law and that they were doing a community service project in conjunction with Haley House in the Dudley area.

It is always nice to see people volunteering for the good of a community.  I thought I’d share the photo.

I have other thoughts, about how the more things change in Dudley Square, the more they remain the same, but I won’t go there today.  This is a positive post.  Spring is coming as evidenced by spring cleaning on Saturday in Dudley.
