Happy birthday though 9

My husband gets on my nerves and then I swerve
Wanting to be right up under him
Keep him near
Cause he’s the sweetest man, the funniest man, the one I hold dear
Until – I can’t stand him again

Did he second guess me?
Did he just try to check me?
Did he really just say that?
Did he walk into my office and interrupt?
He did and he’ll do it again
I’ll roll my eyes, count to ten…
The couple dance never ends.

I love our conversations that happen spontaneously
We pontificate, we relate, and sometimes we hate (the craziness of this world)
One night recently we stayed up ‘til two: revisiting, sharing,
Discovering anew.

Did you know that I know I sometimes get on your nerves?
Then all is okay; we round the curve.
I love you and am so delighted that you’ve gained another trip around the sun
Being quarantined with you has been scary and a degree beyond fun.
We’ve partnered, we’ve gathered in…
The home we’ve created together, the spaces apart and shared
Makes me so delighted we’re paired.

All of this to say
Happy Birthday, dear Tessil, Happy birthday to you
And many more.
